This handbook attempts to be scientific in its approach, as it outlines the historical background,
development, context and function of ‘race’ and racism in white societies. It discusses difficult
questions such as: are all white people racist? Why is racism now permanent? This book does not
sugarcoat racism– rather it explains racism as it actually is, and shows that 'race' was central to the
making of the modern world.
The Racism handbook is essentially a Black Studies publication presented through the lens of anti-
racism discourse.
The book is a concise book on ‘race’, racism, slavery, colonialism, post-colonialism, whiteness, and
white supremacy with the focus on blackness and black people.
It explores the function of white domination in the overarching narrative of racialisation.
The handbook gives solutions of self-determination and recognising cultural differences, through
the focus on an understanding of aspects of ancient black history and modern black history, black
epistemology, and African cultural practise as a process of creating a way forward.
